Dr. Joseph Heinecke

Doctor of Chiropractic

Since the third grade I knew I was called to be a doctor. I was fascinated by the human body, wanting to learn everything I could. I would study anatomy books for fun while others in my peer group thought I was obsessed; I was and still am. I had originally anticipated attending medical school, and I did not realize that my whole conception of health, medicine and how the body truly works would be forever changed.

While in high school I was attending a special class for students interested in the healthcare field. It allowed us to participate in internships with doctors in the Mesa County area. While in class a doctor of chiropractic came and gave us a short lecture on the nervous system. It was presented in a way that I had never heard before and it completely grabbed my attention. He explained how the nervous system controls and coordinates every cell, tissue and organ in our bodies and that when there is interference to the nervous system a myriad of health conditions could ensue.

I decided it might be interesting to see what a chiropractor did because I thought, “Oh, they deal with neck and back pain.” Was I in for a surprise! I did see patients get well from neck and back pain but what truly amazed me was watching people come in with conditions some would think would require a “regular doctor” i.e. stomach problems, high blood pressure, children with ear infections, people with digestive problems, etc. You name it, I saw it, and most importantly I saw them get well as a result of chiropractic care. I felt as if I were hit by a lightning bolt and saw my life’s purpose come into view. I was meant to be a Doctor of Chiropractic!

I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in human biology from Colorado Mesa University, during which time I maintained a full-time job working with the developmentally disabled population. I then moved to Atlanta, Georgia to attend Life University and pursue my Doctor of Chiropractic degree. I graduated in 2013 with honors and while I was in school, published a scientific paper contributing to chiropractic research, “Improvement in the Quality of Life in a Patient with Aicardi Syndrome: A Retrospective Case Study.” This involved a little girl with severe developmental disabilities who saw tremendous improvement in the quality of her life and that of her caregiver as a result of chiropractic care.

I am proud to live in Western Colorado and am proud to serve my community as a Doctor of Chiropractic. I strive to continue learning as much as I can as your health is my top priority and it is my goal to empower you so that your health is your top priority too.
